Gunnison Chapel
St. Lawrence University

SLU Newman Club

The beautiful Gunnison Chapel, which was built in 1926, is
the scene of voluntary religious services and ceremonial events.
Numerous beautiful stained glass windows grace the building,
which is the source of a campus tradition: the chiming of its bells
every weekday afternoon at 5 o'clock when classes are in session.

The annual Candlelight Service of Lessons and Carols
is held during the final week of classes in December.
The two services are held in Gunnison Memorial Chapel
at 7:00pm and 9:00pm.  Faculty, staff, students, and
members of the community are welcome to attend.

The stained glass windows of Gunnison Chapel were designed
by Marguerite Gaudin, who, since 1931, was associated with
The Willet Studios, one of the largest stained glass studios in
the United States. The Cross and Crown Window, installed in 1926,
was designed at the request of President Sykes and was the first
stained glass window in Gunnison Chapel.  From 1972 to 1981, there
were 29 more windows installed in the chapel.  The Windows of
Gunnison Memorial Chapel at St. Lawrence University describes
each window in detail together with its history. This book is available
at the Brewer Bookstore.
